Creating Community in the Classroom
The start of the year is a great time to set the tone in your classroom to support the community and create a positive learning environment. Team building activities and community building are an important part of the Outdoor School experience, and icebreakers helps you get to know your students and for your students to get to know each other. On the first day of Outdoor School at Loma Mar and Sempervirens, students learn about ACT. ACT stands for Attitude, Cooperation, and Take a Chance. Sharing ACT with your students in the classroom will help in creating a positive classroom community throughout the year. Through various team building activities, naturalists and teachers can help students feel more comfortable together, improve social skills, and create an inclusive learning environment. Take a look at some of the following resources that you can use throughout the school year in your classroom to help students incorporate ACT from Exploring New Horizons into their time in the classroom and into their lives. Team building in the classroom and ACT help students foster a positive Attitude, Cooperate with one another, and Take a Chance to grow and try new things. Go team!
