Creekside — Spring has Sprung! Lets have some fun! Spring is officially here as the vernal equinox has come and gone. Creekside has the handy casino and this little area on this site is definitely changing. We have been experiencing strong north winds and a little fog in the morning and evening time. This week we were seeing more of the redwood forest bloom and this week especially the elderberry has been beautiful.
Creekside is always a great group with amazing teachers in Jan Gidlund, Jan Bissel, Mr. Wallace and Mrs. Croghan. We had a number of special guests throughout the week and one of whom I would love to talk about is former naturalist Fog. We were really happy to have Fog back from Seminary in LA. He brought his beautiful smile and calm ways and wrote a poem that I will write as part of this Hotspot. ENH is a large community and it is always nice to have those of you who come and go, come back again.
Caspian Terns, Grey Whales, Pidgeon Guillemots, whimbrels, black turnstones, red legged frogs, western pond turtles, yellow rumped warbler, common yellow throats, great blue herons, smowy and great egrets — what else??
California Newt, bats, coyote, bobcat, pacific slope flycatchers, wilsons wablers, orange crowned wablers, acorn woodpeckers, pacific slope flycathcers, bushtits, white and golden crowned sparrows, all types of finches under the sun, great horned owl (heard by student!), red shouldered and red tailed hawk and tons of deer. What about the plants? Elderberry in bloom, trillium in bloom, western houndstongue, redwood violet, milkmaids, wake robins — so much that I dont even know.
Keep the dream alive and know that the Earth loves you!
Redwood Duff in your hair,
sand between your toe,
blue skys in your eyes,
and fresh air in your nose.
This flowing week flies fast,
little time to reflect,
two tiny seeds have changed my life,
simply this: much love and much respect.
Take the memories you’ve made,
enjoy them for a while,
in time plant new seeds,
to vitalize that inspirational smile.
The night hike is like life.
Disoriented and dark you dont give up.
The question is not if you fall down.
But the noteworthy moment is how you rise up.
No two stories are the same.
Yours will rescue when you need to float.
And they will guide you forever.
Because they are the ones you wrote.
Talk, listen, inspire and guide.
Live, Laugh, sing and dance.
Run, walk, sit and pause.
Give, receive and take a chance.
Thanks Fog for the wonderful poem and all of your blessings!
